Metallurgical processes such as steel production and non-ferrous metal smelting require large volumes of cooling water to maintain stable operation of equipment including blast furnace cooling systems, continuous casting machines, and hydraulic lubrication units. Due to harsh operating environments, cooling water from external sources such as cooling towers or natural water supplies often contains sediment and suspended particles. Plate heat exchangers are commonly used to separate external cooling circuits from internal equipment loops, protecting clean process water systems from contamination and reducing the risk of scaling and corrosion.

For specialized processes with high temperatures, high pressures, or highly corrosive media, plate & shell heat exchangers provide a more suitable solution. Applications such as coke oven gas cooling with ammonia water or high-temperature alkaline heating in alumina production require equipment that can withstand demanding chemical and thermal conditions beyond the limits of conventional gasketed plate heat exchangers. The welded plate structure of plate & shell heat exchangers eliminates traditional gasket limitations and provides reliable operation under severe conditions. Compared with conventional shell and tube heat exchangers, the plate structure offers higher heat transfer efficiency within a more compact design.
